Privacy Policy

The short version: the API Dev Studio desktop app runs entirely on your machine. There is no account, no telemetry from the app, and your API data never leaves your computer. The only times the app talks to our services are checking for updates and activating a Pro license. The website uses analytics; the app does not.
Who we are
API Dev Studio is built and operated by Jeff Pegg (jpegg.dev). You can reach us at jeff@apidevstudio.com.
The desktop app
API Dev Studio is a desktop application for Windows, macOS, and Linux. Everything you create in it (projects, endpoints, mock responses, recorded requests, environments) is stored in a local SQLite database on your machine. We have no access to it.
- No account or sign-up is required to use the app.
- The app sends no telemetry, usage statistics, or analytics.
- Your API traffic, payloads, keys, and request history never leave your machine.
Error reports (local only)
The app includes an error reporting feature that captures crash details and optional manual bug reports. These reports are written to a folder on your own disk and are never transmitted anywhere. Sensitive values such as API keys, passwords, and auth tokens are redacted before a report is saved. You can view and delete reports inside the app, or delete the files yourself.
Update checks
The app periodically checks for new versions. To do this it contacts GitHub (github.com/jpeggdev/apidevstudio-releases) and our releases proxy (a Cloudflare Worker). Like any web request, this reveals your IP address and the app version to those services. No other identifier is sent, and we do not log or correlate these requests to individuals. You can review GitHub's privacy practices in the GitHub Privacy Statement.
License activation (Pro)
If you buy a Pro license, activating it sends the following to our license service (hosted on Cloudflare Workers with a Cloudflare D1 database):
- Your license key, or the email address you purchased with
- A machine identifier: a random ID generated by the app on first run. It is not derived from your hardware and identifies the install, not you.
- Your computer's hostname, the app version, and your operating system name
We use this to bind the license to one machine at a time and to help with support. That is all it is used for.
Payments
Pro licenses are sold as a one-time purchase through Stripe Payment Links. Stripe processes your card details; we never see or store card numbers. After a purchase, Stripe sends us your email address and payment metadata (for example the payment ID), which we use to generate your license key and email it to you. See the Stripe Privacy Policy for how Stripe handles your data.
Website analytics
This website (apidevstudio.com) uses two analytics services. These apply to the website only, not the desktop app:
- Google Analytics 4, which uses cookies and collects usage data such as pages viewed, approximate location, and events like download clicks. See the Google Privacy Policy. You can opt out with the Google Analytics opt-out browser add-on.
- Simple Analytics, a privacy-friendly, cookieless service that collects aggregate page view counts without tracking individuals. See the Simple Analytics privacy policy.
Newsletter
If you sign up for our newsletter, we store your email address in a Cloudflare database and send emails through Resend. Signing up is optional, and every email includes an unsubscribe link. You can also email us to be removed.
Data retention and deletion
We keep license records for as long as your license is valid, and newsletter subscriptions until you unsubscribe. To have your data deleted (license records, newsletter subscription, or support emails), contact jeff@apidevstudio.com and we will remove it. Data stored by the app lives on your machine; uninstalling the app or deleting its data folder removes it.
What we do not do
- We do not sell or rent your personal data.
- We do not run ads or share data with ad networks.
- We do not collect anything from inside the desktop app beyond what is described above.
Changes to this policy
If we change this policy, we will update this page and the date at the top. Material changes that affect the desktop app will also be noted in release notes.
